Welcome to the website of Jane Allsopp, writer of fiction for children and young adults

Books
My first novel for young people was published in December, 2021, and my second is partly written. Read on for more information about both books and get a flavour of them.

What we have in common
What we have in common is a story about two sisters, Portia and Lia, and is set in Wirksworth, a town in Derbyshire. The story is told through the intertwined voices of Portia and Lia, who are 18 and 13 respectively, and I’ve written it with teenage readers particularly in mind.

Tamwary
Who, what or where is Tamwary? You’ll have to wait to read it to find out, although there will be clues as I blog about it over the coming months. The main character is an 11 year old girl, and the story is written for middle grade (8-12) readers. It’s set mainly in the 1960s, and includes a lot of horses and some foxes.
What we have in common is a nuanced story of what it means to be family, with a plot that twists and turns, keeping you guessing and making it impossible to put down!

World Book Day
I’m honoured to have been invited to talk to Year 8 students on this World Book Day as a local author. The feedback was wonderful to get, and the opportunity to contribute to WBD was a huge privilege.

A bit about me
I write novels for children and young people, and also flash and short fiction. What we have in common is my first published novel. I live on Exmoor, between the sea and the high moors, surrounded by fields and woodland, in much the sort of place I dreamed of as a child. I’ve also lived in London, twice, the flat land of Cambridgeshire, and the hills of Derbyshire, and had different careers before being a writer.
